Whether it’s piano lessons to develop fine motor skillsvoice lessons to enhance speech and breath control, or songwriting to foster creativity and memory, we design each program around your child’s unique needs. The lessons are designed to assess where the teacher is able to make a connection with the student and to figure out what are the student's main strengths and interests. 

We offer in-home one-on-one music therapy lessons for:

​Note: While our lessons are not clinical music therapy, we use music and simple musical and percussion instruments to connect with the students, get their interest and participation and we gradually adapt the lessons to support therapeutic non-musical goals.

- Music Therapy Stages -
First Session 
The first session is a time for beginning the process of developing trust and connection, while observing and taking notes about clients responses to the setting, the therapist, the music and environment as well as to test the musical interest by using various musical instruments, piano and simple percussion and vocalizing. The music therapist attempts to establish a rapport and fun environment to maximize the opportunity to develop a close working relationship with the student. The objectives for what is to be accomplished in the first session includes:

  • Developing Rapport and a connection

  • Gathering Information

  • Observing the students reactions and interests

  • Further defining the goal and objectives 

  • Outlining responsibilities of student and therapist

  • If possible, giving some music instruction and assignments on their instrument


Assessment
General Assessment of functioning will be conducted by way of systematic observation to determine client's strength and weaknesses and to measure client's functional level.
Criteria to consider:

  • Communication Skills

  • Cognitive Skills

  • Sensory Processing

  • Motor Skills

  • Psycho-social and Emotional Social ability.

  • Musical Ability and Musical Potential


Treatment Plan
The process of developing a step by step series of objectives and target behaviors that carry out the goal of therapy; it outlines how the client is expected to progress throughout the course of therapy sessions.
Includes:

  • A review of the assessment report

  • A hierarchy of Objectives and Target behaviors 

  • A brief description of Strategies

  • A Design; case studies, experimental group, or individual therapy


Treatment Implementation
Includes:

  • Contracting

  • Session Planning

  • Describing client's progress

  • Reviewing the therapeutic relationship

  • Revising procedures


Treatment Evaluation and Documentation
At this stage, the therapist attempts to define if music therapy have been successful in reaching the goals set in the treatment plan.
This evaluation will determine the degree of success or failure of music therapy to reach outlined therapeutic goals. 

Treatment Termination
Music therapist determines termination when client has attained all goals, loses interest in further treatment, or can no longer be scheduled.

This stage includes:

  • Treatment summary of the client's progress

  • A Date for the last session 

  • A plan for phasing out sessions, if feasible

  • Recognition of student's feelings regarding termination

  • A focus on the student's future, including recommendation for other services and plans for reassessment or follow-up.
